MBDA and Iora Ecological Solutions have partnered with Acorn Rabobank to implement Meghalaya Carbon Agroforestry for Community Resilience and Ecosystems (MegCare) programme across the state.
The programme encourages farmers to enhance both nature and livelihood solutions through agroforestry practices. When farmers and forest owners participate in the program, they will benefit from tree produce like fruits, NTFPs and timber, as well as receive additional annual income from carbon credits.
MegCare programme encourages the widespread adoption of agroforestry practices, which can benefit both people and planet.
The programme offers:
MegCare focuses on restoring and managing human-dominated, degraded landscapes through sustainable agroforestry models that generate carbon credits and promote green livelihoods. We involve local residents, especially women and youth, in nursery activities and land restoration with native tree planting.
MegCare is committed to restoring degraded and fragmented landscapes across Meghalaya through sustainable agroforestry practices. By engaging 2,000 villages and covering approximately 150,000 hectares, our mission is to revitalize 100,000 hectares through new plantations and recover 50,000 hectares of degraded forest land. This will be achieved by strengthening agroforestry practices on existing lands and through gap-filling initiatives. We aim to empower local communities, particularly women and youth, to lead in sustainable land management while fostering green livelihoods through carbon credit incentives.
